6-Month Intensive Training Begins September 21, 2019

There is a human desire, whether inherent or taught, to strive toward becoming better. There is a feeling, an inkling, a calling toward the light of knowledge and strength. This is our nature. What ever struggles we face in our lives, there is a way toward light, strength, peace, and acceptance in the Yoga system. Learning all of the tools of that system is the starting point to living the life you were meant to live – physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually.

Become the sovereign of your life, realizing that becoming sovereign is not being better than anyone else, it’s simply becoming better than you used to be. This training will help you take control of your own destiny (paradoxically by releasing control of it) to come into alignment with the universal creative force that makes you exactly who you’re meant to be.

Do you want to deepen your practice or understand better what is actually happening when you’re doing yoga? Has your yoga practice become stagnant and you need a re-boot?

This training will help each participant understand all of the subtleties of the Mind-Body Science known as Yoga. It is referred to as a “science” because the techniques are like scientific experiments: they are performed for specific reasons and have results that can be replicated. We take the guesswork out of the Yoga system so you will no longer have to waste time determining the right techniques to employ to achieve the desired result.

Tom Pierson draws from many wells of healing. His mastery in bodywork as a Massage Therapist, 15 years of practicing and teaching Yoga, and his continued commitment to self-healing and growth have all brought him to a time and place where he can share his wisdom (and mistakes) to help you on your own path of Self-Realization.

One aspect that sets this training apart from most others is the focus given to the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali and the Bhagavad Gita. We will learn the tradition of yoga directly from the source, and modernize the practices to apply to today’s challenges and considerations. Understanding the truth as conveyed in these ancient texts is imperative if we are to keep to the principles and traditions that have been successful for over 2,500 years.

Tom Pierson has spent many years studying these texts, even before becoming a yoga instructor. He has developed a very creative way to modernize the language to turn the mystical into the practical. No matter your faith, denomination, or sect (or none at all), each participant will come to understand their spirit.

A universal paradox concerning self-improvement is that you must give it away in order to keep what you’ve gained. Once you have developed your own understanding of your sense of Self, you will unconsciously help everyone in your life to create their own positive changes. You will have tools to facilitate others (not just physically, but also emotionally and spiritually) to become their best.

We learn in the Bhagavad Gita the importance of selfless service and how to participate and show up for a world full of hunger and grief. Tom Pierson will teach techniques that will support how to help others while monitoring your own energy levels and how to replenish when the well runs empty.

Through celebrating differences, recognizing similarities, and growing through personal challenges, we realize that we are not alone. Each one of us is an integral part of the goings-on in the universe. This makes our mission of deep connection with our spirit, our Selves, and to each other poignant. This is amplified when a “small group of thoughtful, committed, citizens” come together. We will learn our own strength by supporting others to become stronger. We will overcome our own fear, grief, and apathy when we help others overcome theirs.

Tom Pierson is very active in community circles. He has developed skills to create healing and empowerment in group settings and uses this model in a lighthearted and loving way.


This 200-hour course is certified by the Yoga Alliance. Completion of the course is mandatory for becoming a Registered Yoga Teacher. 

The price for the course is $4,000.00

The class meets at Tranquil Heart Yoga on Tuesdays from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm, on Saturdays from 9:30 am to 12:30 pm, and on Sundays from 9:30 am to 11:00 am. Class begins on Saturday, September 21st and ends in February. There will be opportunities to make up missed hours, see syllabus for details.

Private Session 10 Hours

Included with this training will be ten private sessions to be used at your discretion. This can be used to cover missed hours or to deepen your understanding. The focus will be determined by your individual needs.

Weekend Integration Retreat

Toward the end of the training, on a weekend that is suitable for most everyone, we will go on a weekend retreat to integrate what we are learning into an intensive practice. While this is optional to the training, it is strongly recommended.

Required Writing Assignments

There will be three academic papers required to complete the course.

The first is an Anatomy Research Paper: Choose one of the systems of the body (Circulatory, Digestive, Integumentary, Endocrine, Lymphatic, Muscular, Nervous, Reproductive, Excretory, Respiratory) and explain the benefits, indications, contraindications relating to yoga. Present this information in the form of a yoga workshop/class, including specific poses/practices.

The second covers the Yoga Sutras: Summarize the Sutras studied (particularly Sadhana Pada and parts of Samadhi Pada). What practical application have you found/used?

The third paper is your Business Plan: Whether you’re planning on teaching a workshop or own a studio, create a business plan that will give a true view of all of the necessary considerations.

Required Public Class (Final Exam)

You will be required to teach one public class that incorporates the focus of your writing assignments. This is considered your “final” exam. You are required to review and present the class with the lead instructor. You will be required to create and implement a marketing strategy to get as many people to your class as possible.
