Becoming the Modern Mystic

An Experiential Lecture by Tom Pierson

What does it mean to be a mystic? What may come to mind when you think of a mystic is someone gazing intently into a crystal ball or a long-bearded fellow wearing saffron robes chanting incoherently in some ancient language. While that may be true of some cases, there is no need to buy special incense or garments to become one.

What this class will show you is that you, too, can become a Modern Mystic. A Modern Mystic, in short, understands or has a knowing through experience, which transcends an understanding from simply learning. The mystic has gone through the process of order – disorder – reorder – integration, known as inner work. What does inner work mean? In the case of this series, it is about finding and looking at all parts of yourself, separating them, reorganizing them, and integrating them fully into your life. In short, it is about finding who you truly are. When you get integrated with all the parts of yourself, you will begin to have a much bigger and deeper understanding of the goings-on in the world around you. You get to see the whole picture, because you see yourself whole.

We will explore the methods using the Yogic Tradition, along with Jungian psychological understanding of the archetypes. Each session will have a “process”, facilitated by Tom Pierson, and a “practice” to incorporate into your daily routine. The simple, short practices will be meditative in nature, incorporating movement, journaling, reading, and quiet stillness. By the end of this class, you will have a personal yoga, meditation, and centering practice that can transform you into the Modern Mystic.
